Nearly all 28 Stage One villas have been reserved at Arrowtown Lifestyle Retirement Village, and the operators are now preparing to release Stage Two villa plans in the coming weeks – earlier than originally planned. Local interest has been very high, with over 85% of villas reserved by retirees from within the Queenstown Lakes District.
“This reaffirms our belief that there is strong need for a lifestyle village in the region” says managing director, Aaron Armstrong. “It is our intention to build a village for the people of Arrowtown and Queenstown, with strong connections with the community”.
The village’s shareholders are predominantly residents of the Queenstown Lakes District, who are passionate about creating a retirement community which reflects local values. Earlier this year Arrowtown Lifestyle Retirement Village was the lead sponsor of the Lake Hayes A & P Show, and the operators intend to continue to support local initiatives and businesses. “Wherever possible we are choosing local suppliers and consultants” said Armstrong “from earthworks to our landscape architect”. Development of the village will cost in excess of $120m and will create significant employment. Enabling works are expected to commence on the McDonnell Road site in July, with the first of the villas to be completed mid-2018. The Stage One development will include an interim Residents’ Lodge, to be used by residents of the first two stages prior to completion of the larger Community Centre. The Lodge will be the social hub of the village, and will house a fireside lounge, residents’ bar, pool table, library, meeting room, gym and spa. In addition, Stage One will deliver a putting green, petanque area, and community vegetable gardens. “Our intending residents are thrilled to learn that there will be lifestyle facilities available within a few months of moving into the village. This is one of the reasons many have decided to make the move” said Armstrong. In addition to 120 villas, Arrowtown Lifestyle Retirement Village is also consented to build a 100 bed aged care centre, a 1000m² community centre and 75 apartments.
